Felt Up: My Story

Me and Sann Hall perform Manos’ Make Out Couple at Bumberhoot in the fall of 2011

Hi 🙂

My name is Paul Velasquez and I live in Seattle, WA. I’m an illustrator, graphic designer, and a card-carrying member of the “Sesame Street” generation. From the first time my mom set me down in front of the TV to watch Sesame Street as a toddler, I was hooked, obsessed really… I have always held the Muppets near and dear to my heart. I’m dedicating this blog to the genius and vision of Jim Henson.

In the summer of 2009 I volunteered at the Jim Henson’s Magic World exhibit at Seattle’s Experience Music Project. For three months I was surrounded by Ernie, Bert, Kermit, Rowlf, and many other puppets from my childhood (and some even older than me). There I met Annett Mateo, the puppet builder for Seattle Children’s Theatre. Annett had created 4 Muppet-esque puppets for an interactive portion of the exhibit called “The Mudgarden Experience”.  Annett was kind enough to show me how she built the puppets, and thus began my journey of puppet building and eventually performing…

I am a freelance puppet builder, as well as illustrator and designer. Feel free to click on over to my portfolio site to see examples of my non-puppetry work (coming soon).

I do commissions, custom builds of just about anything puppetry and performance related, and perform as a puppeteer. I can be reached at paulvelasquez@ yahoo.com.

Thanks for taking the time to check this blog out, i hope it entertains, educates, and most of all makes you smile 😀
